Fixing South Australia’s expensive and unreliable electricity system should be the State Government’s priority, instead of telling businesses to buy generators.

“We are a modern, First World economy. Calls for businesses and households to buy generators harks back to a bygone era of wartime rationing,” said Shadow Minister for Small Business Corey Wingard.

“South Australian businesses are already paying the highest prices in the country for the least reliable power. Now they face the extra impost of having to buy generators just so they can keep their doors open.

“Buying backup generators should be a choice for businesses, not an edict from a tired, out-of-touch Government.

“It is clear the Weatherill Government has given up on providing and maintaining a reliable power supply for businesses and households.

“Many businesses simply cannot continue to operate in South Australia with such an unreliable power network and the threat of future power outages.

“The added costs of running a business in South Australia continue to increase, with many businesses struggling to pay their ESL bills, let alone purchasing generators.”

A Marshall Liberal Government will support small business and lower costs by providing $360 million in relief over four years by reinstating the general remission on the ESL.
