100 Years of the Red Cross in Australia

Member for Hartley, Vincent Tarzia, has led a motion in State Parliament to commemorate 100 years of the Red Cross in Australia.

“The Red Cross has a long and distinguished history of service to the people of Australia. I congratulate the thousands of volunteers who have served with the Red Cross, both past and present across the world,” said Mr Tarzia.

“The Red Cross has served the Australian people in times of war and natural disaster and its volunteers have always served the interests of those they were helping.

“The Australian Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement that coordinates an army of volunteers working in 189 countries around the world.

“Many Australians have a connection to the Red Cross through their work in assisting communities affected by cyclones, bushfires or floods. We must also recognise their extraordinary service to humanitarian efforts in underdeveloped countries around the world.

“There are tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters across Australia and they deserve to have a voice and be celebrated for their efforts.

“I encourage all Members of Parliament to support this motion and do all we can to support the Red Cross as they continue serve in Australia and in difficult humanitarian missions across the world.”
