Pederick motion recognises work of Henry Jones
Liberal Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick, has moved a Private Member’s Motion calling on the South Australian Parliament to recognise and appreciate the tireless commitment and dedication of Mr Henry Jones to the River Murray and Murray Darling Basin.
“Henry Jones was a quietly spoken Clayton Bay fisherman who raised his voice against decades of abuse of the Murray-Darling Basin,” said Mr Pederick.
“Henry was a champion of the River Murray and the Murray Darling Basin Plan would not have proceeded without his efforts and dedication.
“Henry was a lifelong volunteer, a water warrior, and deserves every piece of recognition he received, and will continue to receive.”
Mr Pederick moved that:
That this House expresses its deep regret at the death of Mr Henry Jones, and places on record its appreciation of his long and tireless commitment to the River Murray and Murray Darling Basin.
The motion was supported by all sides of politics with a large number of MPs speaking in admiration of Mr Jones’ work and recognising his efforts and contribution to the future and sustainability of the River Murray.
Mr Pederick was joined in Parliament by Mr Henry’s wife Gloria and daughter Christine.
“Henry’s passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the River Murray and Lower Lakes and Coorong fishing industry were second to none and he will be greatly missed by many,” said Mr Pederick.
“I was privileged to call Henry a friend and it was an honour to work with him on issues impacting his beloved Lower Lakes and Coorong fishery and the River Murray.”
