Native Title Claims Delay CFS Stations

The redevelopment and building of four CFS stations have been delayed as a result of Native Title claims.

Dr Duncan McFetridge MP, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services and Aboriginal Affairs, advised today that four CFS stations, Mylor, Parndana, Western Districts and Stewarts Range, have been delayed as a result of Native Title claims at all of these locations.

“I’m aware that Native Title issues have caused delays for the redevelopment of Mylor CFS and that investigation of the Indigenous Land Use Agreement is currently being undertaken,” said Dr McFetridge.

“At Parndana, an alternate site has to be found for the Kangaroo Island appliance storage shed due to Native Title issues.

“The same story is happening at Western Districts where the building of a new station has been delayed because an alternate site needs to be identified due to Native Title issues.

The proposed Crown Land site at Stewarts Range is also subject to a Native Title Claim and cannot be dedicated to the Minister so an alternative site will need to be found.

“How many more CFS states are being delayed or alternative sites are required to be found and when will CFS volunteers get their new facilities?”

“These delays need to be resolved quickly as they are costing taxpayers money and putting local communities at risk if they are not equipped with adequate facilities,” said Dr McFetridge.
