Regional Express Airlines takes Christmas off

Regional Express Airlines (REX) will not be flying on Christmas Day around Australia.

“With the exception of the Port Lincoln route, which is serviced by another airline, their service is crucial to our ports namely Ceduna, Whyalla, Broken Hill, Mount  Gambier and Kingscote,” Member for Finniss Michael Pengilly said.

“Mainland destinations will still be accessible by long road trips however Kingscote and Kangaroo Island have only air and sea routes. However the SeaLink ferry service also does not operate on Christmas Day.

“Tourism operators have contacted me because they are very concerned about this. It seems ludicrous to promote the place as a great destination, but for people not be able to get there or get back on Christmas Day.

“The Weatherill Labor Government needs to meet with REX urgently. Visiting KI is a major part of South Australia’s tourism strategy.

“If the Weatherill Labor Government doesn’t do something, tourists and locals will be left stranded on Christmas day if they want to travel to or from KI,” Mr Pengilly said.
