SA racing industry
The State Liberals have called on the Weatherill Labor Government to support South Australia’s racing industry.
During the recent State Election, the State Liberals committed to providing the racing industry with $300,000 per year to grow and employ more South Australians.
This would have allowed the industry to examine ways to upgrade existing infrastructure or develop new facilities.
The State Liberals also announced a $15 million commitment to kick-start the stalled Murray Bridge Racing Club Gifford Hill development.
“The State Liberals understand that South Australia’s racing industry is an important economic driver,” said Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Racing Terry Stephens.
“The South Australian racing industry employs over 3,500 people and generates $401 million every year in economic benefits for our State.
“The racing industry is second only to the AFL in event attendance, and is a much loved fixture in our sporting calendar.
“Racing is also a key component of South Australian tourism.
“It’s up to new Racing Minister Leon Bignell to take immediate action and repair 12 years of industry neglect from the Weatherill Labor Government.
“South Australia’s racing industry should be supported and encouraged to grow and create even more jobs for South Australians.”
