Nominate for Preselection

Do you want to make a difference in your local area, your state and your country?

Why not consider running for preselection in your local state or federal seat, for the Legislative Council (State), or for the Senate (Federal).

Who is eligible to run for preselection?

Any member is eligible to seek preselection, provided they have been a member for the three months immediately prior to the date on which nominations close.

How does the preselection process work?

  1. The State Executive and Secretariat move to open nominations in a particular seat (or seats).
  2. An individual nominates using the prescribed form which is then lodged with the State Director.
  3. Candidates who nominate are interviewed by the Candidate Review Committee.
  4. A preselection college is held comprising of eligible members who reside in the electorate concerned and the State Executive. Each candidate who has nominated is given the opportunity to speak to members, who then vote in a secret ballot to determine which candidate will represent the Liberal Party for that particular electorate. Pre-selection of the Senate and Legislative Council Candidates is determined by State Council acting as an Electoral College.
